Abstract
|
|
|
Malignant fibrous histiocytoma was originally considered as a rare variant of common
benign fibrous histiocytoma, but recently reclassified as a distinct form of sarcoma. A
storiform pattern with admixture of fibroblasts and histiocytes, as well as xanthomatous
and giant cells, is characteristic histological findings. This tumor is a deep seated soft
tissue sarcoma of the extremities and trunk. Although the lung is a frequent site for
distant metastasis of this tumor, primary malignant fibrous histicoytoma of the lung is
quite rare. We present a case of primary malignant fibrous histiocytoma of the lung
with a discussion of its clinical and pathological manifestations.
